Effect of Carbaryl on Histopathalogical Changes in the Gills of Freshwater Bivalve Corbicula Striatella
Main Article Content
Abstract
Corbicula striatella, freshwater bivalves were exposed to sublethal concentration (2.58 ppm) and median lethal concentration (0.512 ppm) of carbaryl to study the histopathological changes in the gills. In the present study, damage to gill tissues has been observed. These include degeneration of connective tissue cells. Necrosis was evident from the pycnotic nuclei, swelling of gill filaments was observed. Increased period of exposure to pesticides caused an increase in structural damage.
